The First Teaser and Poster for Avengers: Doomsday Officially Released: The Return of Steve Rogers
According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Marvel Studios has finally released the first official teaser for Avengers: Doomsday after its initial screening in cinemas. The teaser confirms that Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, portrayed by Chris Evans, is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, the film’s official poster teases the arrival of the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
The Russo brothers, who are directing the film, explained the decision to bring the character back in a statement:
“A character that changed our lives. A story that brought all of us together. He was always meant to return for this film.”
It had previously been announced that the cast includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Winston Duke as M’Baku, among others.
Evans, who bid farewell to the role of Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, previously told ComicBook under what circumstances he would consider returning to the MCU:
“I don’t want to disappoint anyone, but it’s hard because… it was such a great run and I’m very satisfied with it. It’s very precious to me. A return would have to be perfect. This role means so much to me, so going back to it could feel like an unreasonable request.”
Evans first portrayed Steve Rogers / Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and reprised the role 11 times over the course of nine years. In an interview with GQ, he had also emphasized that a return after Avengers: Endgame was not impossible:
“I never say never, simply because it was such a wonderful experience.”
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026.
